RAYMONDVILLE 42, PROGRESO 18: At Progreso, the Bearkats clinched the teams first playoff berth since 1990 by beating Progreso.
The Bearkats (5-1 in district, 7-2 overall) will be in the Division I bracket of the playoffs as the big school of the district. Joining the Bearkats in the playoffs are the La Feria Lions and the Port Isabel Tarpons.
Progreso (1-5, 2-7) had quarterback Andy Alvarado take over the 32-3A passing lead with 1,039 yards for the season. Alvarado passed for 159 yards Friday and threw for two touchdowns, a 7-yard strike to Lalo Garcia and a 23-yarder to Jesus Ortega. Cesar Anderson had a 9-yard touchdown run to cap the Progreso scoring for the night.
Alvarado passed Santa Rosas Rene Lara for the lead. Lara has 1,005 for the season.
Raymondville had 353 yards of total offense, 342 of it on the ground.
Quarterback Roel Garza led the team with three touchdowns runs of 3, 5 and 2 yards. Tailback Jaime Montemayor scored two times while backfield teammate Hector Vela added a 73-yard jaunt also.
Raymondville had two 100-yard rushers in the game. Garza had the game-high 134 yards while Vela had 102.
